Dobry is a book by Monica Shannon first published in 1934 that won the Newbery Medal for most distinguished contribution to American literature for children in 1935.

Bulgarian-born sculptor Atanas Katchamakoff illustrated the book. In 1934, Katchamakoff's illustrations for Dobry, a children's book by Monica Shannon, contributed to the book's winning the Newbery Medal for children's literature. Dobry tells the story of a Bulgarian boy whose artistic aspirations overcome daily struggles and his mother's apprehensions. Katchamakoff's illustrations, rooted in his own experiences as a peasant boy in Bulgaria, were integral to the narrative. Many incidents in the book drew directly from his life, providing authenticity and vibrancy to the story.

Kirkus Reviews said of Dobry, "There's the real feel of the land in the story". Children's literature expert May Hill Arbuthnot calls it "One of the greatest children's books about people of other countries". She suggests that adults "Read it aloud, discuss and savor the colorful episodes.” Twentieth-Century Children's Writers says the book is "inspiring", and that "the major characters in Dobry are strong and well-delineated". Dobry won the 1935 Newbery Medal.

Shannon was born in Canada to Irish immigrants Patrick and Eliza Keena Shannon, but moved to the United States before her first birthday. They lived in Seattle first before settling in Montana's Bitter Root Valley, where she grew up on the ranches her father supervised. The stories told by her father's Bulgarian ranch-hands influenced her writing, as did her love for nature. Even as a child Shannon's writing reflected her love for nature and the shepherds on her family's ranch. For one elementary school assignment to write about her favorite Bible character, Shannon chose Joseph of the Old Testament, who was a shepherd as a young boy. The story so impressed her teacher that Shannon won a special award for it.
