This is one of my original encaustic monotypes. It is a one of a kind artwork that is done on acid free paper. The art is placed in a 16 x 20 inch acid free mat board.

Encaustic monotypes are a one of a kind work of art which is created with pigmented beeswax. Once the design is created with the melted colored wax on a heated surface, paper is applied, and the design is transferred into the paper. It is a delicate flowing dance of artistic creation, heat, and color within the translucent beauty of wax.

I am inspired in my work by ancient iconic art and architecture, as well as tribal designs, and obscure texts, from times far past. Tattered remnants, symbolism, and dreams, all play into my inspiration. I enjoy the hints and references, from that which has traveled through time for us. These inspire my markings, create my language in art to express and honor those before me. For over 35 years I have been a full time papermaker, translating my vision into my fine art through the medium of my handmade paper. It is a joyful exploration of a new medium for me to include working with encaustic art, the ancient art of painting with colored wax.

As with any painting, this encaustic monotype should not receive any direct sunlight and the colors will stay vivid over time. It was a joy to create this and may my art bring you enjoyment in the years to come. Barbara
